McAllen Wins Big at 2018 TFEA Conference

The McAllen Convention Center, City of McAllen and BLACK KOI 360 Design Studio brought home honors from the 2018 Texas Festivals & Events Association (TFEA) event marketing competition recently held in McAllen.

The City of McAllen and McAllen Convention Center competed with other events from throughout the state of Texas in various categories, ranging from print, video, digital, apparel, and activities. A total of 488 entries were judged by a panel of marketing professionals, and the City of McAllen representatives earned 76 awards.

"The TFEA Marketing and Communication Awards program recognizes excellence in campaigns used to promote festivals and events," said TFEA Executive Director, Kay Wolf. "This competition recognizes the creativity and professionalism of the Texas festivals and events industry.”

“These awards and recognition solidify to our team that we have an amazing partner in Black Koi 360,” said Laurie Pulido, McAllen Convention Center Interim Director and Manager of Sales & Event Services.

Wins for the BLACK KOI 360 creative team included:

GOLD  Kaliff Marketing Awards

•   "Best Event Website" for McAllen State of the City Address website

•   "Best Event Misc. On-Site Décor" for 2017 PalmFest

•   "Best Promotional Poster" for Sunset Live Outdoor Concert Series

•   "Best Single Digital/Social Ad" for McAllen International CarFest

"Best Individual Sponsor Follow-Up Report" for McAllen Holiday Parade

BRONZE  Kaliff Marketing Awards

Laurie Pulido also commented, “It is a pleasure to team up with a company who understands the importance of our mission and image for each annual event that we produce.  This dynamic creates an ease of communication and vision that reflects in our marketing efforts time and time again.”

Work for these projects begins months before people see the first ad in the paper or a post on social media. "We always put a lot of work and emotion into our designs. We aim at creating visual elements we love and hope others will love as well," said Lu Gimello, Creative Director at BK360. "There truly isn't a bigger honor than knowing your peers and colleagues praise your work."

BLACK KOI 360 has been working with the McAllen Convention Center for the past few years in creating beautiful, well-thought visual elements for their events. During the past three years, BK360 has earned a total of 23 awards for designs created for MCC, McAllen PAC, Grants Administration Office, and McAllen Holiday Parade

The Texas Festivals and Events Association represents the hundreds of festivals that celebrate the history, legends, culture, art, folklore, and natural beauty of the Lone Star State. Members of TFEA are given a platform to learn, grow, and increase professional standards and practices surrounding the creation, implementation, and marketing of special events and festivals.
