RGV Creatives Invited to MLB Mexico Series 2018

Updated: May 30, 2018

Rio Grande Valley businesses, Black Koi 360 Design Studio and Joshua Moroles collaborated with Beisjoven.com, the #1 digital platform in Mexico for youth baseball and softball related content, to cover the highly anticipated return of MLB to Mexico.

Major League Baseball returned to Mexico for the first time since 1999 with a three-game official series at Estadio de Béisbol Monterrey, and not even the threat of rain and the gloomy skies above could dampen the anticipation. First pitch of the series was thrown by non other than Mexican legend, Fernando Valenzuela.

Video production, photography and design experts travelled to Monterrey on Thursday and attended the games between the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Lu Gimello (Black Koi 360) and Joshua Moroles (Alamo Digital Agency) worked alongside teams ranging from TV broadcasting giants such as Univision and ESPN, to print media from throughout the US and Mexico.

"Finding out we were officially credentialed by MLB was a total surprise and definitely pushed us to plan and organize the trip rather quickly since we received notice one week prior to the event," said Gimello. "It was an opportunity we could not pass on."

For Moroles, this marked his first visit to the northern Mexican city. "You don’t have to travel too far to be surrounded by amazing culture, sports fans and the best experiences Monterrey has to offer. Tie that together with MLB Mexico and it’s something that I was beyond happy to be part of," he said.

Content created by both agencies was shared across Beisjoven's social media platforms and website with no more than an hour to turn things around. Their coverage included full access to the fan experience -- from FanFest hosted at Monterrey's Macroplaza, to pre-game activities on and off the field, arrival to stadium, food, shopping, MLB's philanthropic activities, and culminated on Monday with a MLB PLAY BALL Activation, followed by a Little League® friendly game attended by Tony Reagins (Executive Vice President, Baseball and Softball Development, MLB), Kim Ng (Senior Vice President, Baseball and Softball Development, MLB), Jose Maiz (President, Sultanes de Monterrey), U.S. Consul General, Timothy Zúñiga-Brown, and Carlos Pagan (Latin America Regional Director, Little League® International).

The BeisJoven collaboration team was one of only 30 credentialed media from Mexico and the United States for MLB's Mexico Series 2018. Moroles and Gimello had the opportunity to work directly with brands such as New Era and Majestic, as well as MLB writing and communications staff. The content they created reached over 850,000 Facebook users in the span of four days.
